National Screenplay Showdown

View All Projects

The National Screenplay Showdown was created to honor the work of the best new screenwriters from around the country, and to serve as a bridge between those writers and the Hollywood film industry. The Showdown evaluates screenplays solely on the basis of storytelling ability -- all story genres have the same chance of winning.

Company History
In its second year, The National Screenplay Showdown is a competition presented by the same peoplewho bring you the Nashville Screenwriting Conference.  The Nashville Screenwriters Conference is proud of its reputation for being a premiere event where participants can learn from and meet with established writers. This year, there are more panels than ever before and more opportunities to talk with the unrivaled group of panelists about the competitive and exciting world of screenwriting.

Contest History
The Showdown picks three winners in two major categories – a general writing category and a music-specific category.  In total, the six top scripts make up an array of material that captures the spirit of American screenwriting at its best.  Both first place winners will receive a trip to the 2006 Nashville Screenwriters Conference, two nights hotel accommodations and spending money.

How Scripts Are Judged
The National Screenplay Showdown competition works in multiple rounds. Taking into consideration over 30 key scoring elements, each judge must look at the strengths and weaknesses of a script in terms of character, structure, marketability, production value, and basic writing mechanics.
