Contest History The Blueprint Screenwriting competition kicked off its inaugural year in 2004, in a partnership between ScriptShark.com and Maverick Films. In an effort to discover new, undiscovered commercial writers, the first year pairing brought in upwards of 1000 entries. Maverick optioned Blueprint’s winning script, “The Briefcase” written by Michael Bain. Over $18,000 in cash and prizes was distributed to the top 10 finalists.
How Scripts Are Judged The Blueprint Screenwriting competition works in multiple rounds. Taking into consideration over 30 key scoring elements, each judge must look at the strengths and weaknesses of a script in terms of character, structure, marketability, production value, and basic writing mechanics.
